Diablo Immortal Gem Surge Event: Retroactive Rewards and Ratio Errors

TL;DR: Before spending in Diablo Immortal's Gem Surge event, be aware of retroactive points not applying, discrepancies in the Phantom Market and Gallery ratios, and how best to run Elder Rifts. We've dug deep to get you the most critical information!

Gem Surge Event: A Cautious Approach

The Gem Surge event has arrived in Diablo Immortal, offering you a prime opportunity to boost your Legendary Gems. However, we feel it's our duty to inform you of some key issues that have surfaced so that you can maximize rewards and avoid any potential losses.

Polished Jades: The Key to Upgrades

In this event, you’ll be using Polished Jades to improve your Legendary Gems. Polished Jades are exclusively acquired through participation in events such as:

  • Running Legendary Crests
  • Running Eternal Legendary Crests
  • Participating in the Phantom Market
  • Participating in the Phantom Gallery

Upgrading a gem from two to three stars requires one Polished Jade, upgrading to four stars costs seven, and upgrading to five stars requires 22 of these currencies. The two-to-three star upgrade is a great way to maximize the gains of this event.

Heed These Key Issues

We have compiled the most essential problems, that players may run into. We want you to be aware of the following points before you commit time and resources to the event.

Retroactive Reward Glitches

The event is supposed to give you retroactive rewards from January 8th onward, for any spending you’ve done since then. However, it appears that this system is not working correctly, as no progress is being made towards this progress.

Be sure to monitor this issue if you have spent legendary crests during that period.

Phantom Market and Phantom Gallery Ratio Discrepancies

The correct ratio for rewards in the Phantom Market and Phantom Gallery is currently in question. While some languages may state a 10:1 or even a 5:1 ratio, it appears that you'll actually receive a 20:1 ratio. This means you'll need to spend more than expected, so be aware and spend accordingly.

Crest Mixing in Elder Rifts

If you intend to run Elder Rifts in order to acquire Polished Jades, be sure to stick with either "bound" or "eternal" legendary crests. If you mix these types, you might miss out on the rewards. Sticking to a single type is your safest bet for earning those Polished Jades.

How to Approach the Event

Given these problems, here’s our approach to participation in this event:

  1. Monitor Retroactive Rewards: Pay close attention to the progress on your rewards to see if you have received your share.
  2. Consider Spending Ratios: Plan your spending according to the 20:1 ratio that is actually being applied to Phantom Market and Phantom Gallery rewards.
  3. Be Consistent With Your Crests: If you run Elder Rifts, stick to either bound or eternal legendary crests, but never mix them.
  4. Prioritize Two to Three-Star Upgrades: Two to three star upgrades are much more cost effective, so focus on that tier for the best value.

By following our guidance, you can make the most of the Gem Surge event while minimizing your risk.

Remaining Optimistic

Despite these difficulties, we believe this is still a worthwhile event. It provides a great opportunity for you to upgrade your two-star gems to three stars. If the problems are fixed, this event could be a very powerful tool. Keep an eye out for our detailed update video where we cover all of these issues and more!
