Diablo Immortal Patch: Gem Drops & Challenge Dungeon Tweaks

TL;DR: Diablo Immortal's January 8th patch brings gem drop table adjustments, tweaks to challenge dungeons, new events, bug fixes and a new battle pass. No massive changes, but lots of small quality-of-life improvements!

This article breaks down the key changes in Diablo Immortal's latest patch, released on January 8th. We'll cover the new battle pass, gem drop adjustments, challenge dungeon tweaks, new events, and bug fixes, drawing on information from the official patch notes and insights from the community.

New Diablo Immortal Battle Pass & Ephemeral Treasures

A new battle pass is dropping with this update, though at the time of recording the official video showcasing it, it was still private. This new battle pass will, of course, include new cosmetics which can hopefully be previewed by the time you’re reading this! You can also reactivate Ephemeral Treasures with a Collector’s Empowered Battle Pass to reclaim any lost cosmetics.

  • The Empowered Battle Pass costs $15 per month and includes additional tokens and rewards, offering increased value to dedicated players.
  • The standard $5 battle pass still provides good value.

Gem Drop Table Adjustments & Mirrored Jewels Event Speculation

One of the key updates is focused on gem drop rates. Blizzard is aiming to improve the drop chances of specific legendary gems by modifying the drop table. This is welcome news, as it becomes increasingly difficult to obtain specific five-star gems as you amass a larger collection. The following gems are now available:

Legendary Gems Now Available

  1. Five-Star Gems: Blood Soaked Jade, Bottled Hope, and more.
  2. Two-Star Gems
  3. One-Star Gems

There is also speculation about a “Mirrored Jewels” event, which was previously teased in China. While not confirmed in the patch notes, this event would likely let players earn more gems from legendary crests. It’s recommended to save 10 legendary crests to potentially run for 20 gems during a potential Mirrored Jewels event on Wednesday.

Challenge Dungeon Changes: Reduced Life Cost & Follow Feature Removal

Challenge Dungeons are getting a few tweaks with the following adjustments:

Challenge Dungeon Changes

  • Sacrificial Power: Life cost reduced from 10% to 8%.
  • Conjure: Duration reduced from 12 to 6 seconds.
  • Doppelganger damage increased.
  • The “Follow” feature has been removed from Challenge Dungeons.

The removal of the “Follow” feature is probably the biggest change here, as it means you can no longer benefit from rewards by sticking around behind other players in Challenge Dungeons. You can still follow in normal dungeons, but this won't be possible in Challenge Dungeons anymore.

Other Notable Updates: Spectral Allies, Elite Quests & Inventory

There are a few other noteworthy updates arriving in this patch including adjustments to Spectral Allies to make them more intuitive, but this was unspecified in the patch notes. Elite Quests can now be replayed anytime, and these quests allow players to relive past cinematic moments. Visit Taite in Westmarch to relive those cinematic moments.

Inventory Changes

  • Inventory Stack: Wildfire, Tremor, Jolt, Vengeance, Barrier, and Ravager Stones now stack to 999 instead of 99.
  • Void blood slag: Now stacks to 10,000 instead of 999.
  • Additional Inventory Space: While not part of this specific patch, it is anticipated that players who link a three-channel authenticator to their account will gain additional inventory space around January 21st.

Returning Events in Diablo Immortal

Plenty of events are on the way in the new patch including the following events:

  • Conqueror: January 3rd to January 17th.
  • Survivor's Bane: January 10th to January 17th.
  • Hungering Moon: January 11th to January 18th. This is a very easy way to get passive rewards.
  • Winds of Fortune: January 15th to January 22nd. This event provides extra rewards for various activities.
  • Wild Brawl: January 17th to January 24th.
  • Shady Stock: January 18th to January 25th, this event gives players some free green gear.

Bug Fixes

There are also a range of bug fixes in the new patch, with the China version of the patch notes highlighting:

  • Reduced monster strength in the Path of Thorns and the Immortal Realm
  • Fixes for issues with Demon Vision
  • Issue with Ancestral Mark contributions after reaching weekly limits
  • Fixes with class change equipment enchantments
  • And many more red dot and dungeon related fixes.

While this patch isn't a massive overhaul, it does offer several quality-of-life improvements to Diablo Immortal, and the changes to gem drops and challenge dungeons could result in the update feeling much larger than it may appear on the surface. Keep an eye out for the new battle pass and events on January 8th, and be sure to claim those extra rewards.
